PLANE SCREEN, PLANE PROP - Andy Ward

This two part piece consists of a backlit partition screen and a floor prop. The figured and spalted, shop-sawn London Plane veneers are laid over a substrate of solid American Glacial Oak—a nod to the species now stepping in to replace timbers like Victorian Ash, following native logging bans in Victoria.

The London Plane tree used for this work was still completely wet, the average drying time for timber is normally three to five years. To make this work possible, I built a custom dehumidification kiln specifically designed to carefully dry veneers rapidly.

Constructed of Veneer, brass and aluminium.
